A further abstraction of version 1 but still captures the message – if not more so. I often marvel at just how all of those swirls or as I see them chaotic ocean waves were painted. What really captivates me though is the orange path that leads me into the painting and inevitably, to the dead end. I imagine: what is at the bottom of those steps? It’s this depth that adds life to the painting achieved by Martin’s technique and no doubt meticulous execution.
In terms of a body of work, it fits well into our collection of abstract paintings and sits unframed (as all our paintings do) on the wall. Easily viewed from the sofa and hours lost wandering around inside it. I always enjoy telling guests the story behind the painting, of course after they’ve shared their interpretation of it.
